Volto semana que vem: Memories of female resilience in prison

Resumo: | The 20th century in Central and Latin America was marked by authoritarianism arising from dictatorial governments that rose to power in many countries in these regions. In Brazil, the regime was implemented in 1964 and left a trail of physical and symbolic violence that remains in contemporary times. The fiftieth anniversary of the coup d’état that put the military in power, together with the end of the work of the National Truth Commission, boosted the production of narratives on the subject. Many of these authors who have been published in recent years are women who were directly or indirectly affected by past events. Among the productions of these women, we highlight the novel by Maria Pilla, Volto Semana que vem (2015a), which brings together memories organized in a disarranged way about their childhood, youth, involvement with militancy, and consequent exile and imprisonment in Argentina. Although the prison is characterized as a dark space that restricts freedom, Pilla focuses on the relationships established with her companions in captivity and their survival strategies. Thus, we analyzed the topic of recording memories that relate to female resilience in prison. In this path, drawing mainly on the research by Eurídice Figueiredo (2017) on the subject, we briefly reflect on the literary production on the dictatorship of recent years, we read Pilla’s novel, we analyze the issue of a female prison in the narrative, we think about the meaning of the work in the context in which it was produced, understanding it, like Figueiredo (2017) as a possibility of archiving our dictatorial past. |

El siglo XX en América Central y América Latina estuvo marcado por el autoritarismo derivado de los gobiernos dictatoriales que llegaron al poder en muchos países de estas regiones. En Brasil, el régimen se implementó en 1964 y dejó una estela de violencia física y simbólica que perdura en la época contemporánea. El quincuagésimo aniversario del golpe de Estado que puso a los militares en el poder, junto con el fin del trabajo de la Comisión Nacional de la Verdad, impulsaron una significativa producción narrativa sobre el tema. Muchos de estos autores que han sido publicados en los últimos años son mujeres que se vieron afectadas directa o indirectamente por eventos pasados. Entre las producciones de estas mujeres, destacamos la novela de Maria Pilla, Volto Semana que vem (2015a), que reúne memorias organizadas de manera desordenada sobre su infancia, juventud, vinculación con la militancia y consecuente exilio y encarcelamiento en Argentina. Aunque la prisión se caracteriza por ser un espacio oscuro que restringe la libertad, Pilla se centra en las relaciones que establece con sus compañeras de cautiverio y sus estrategias de supervivencia. Así, analizamos el tema del registro de memorias que se relacionan con la resiliencia femenina en prisión. En ese camino, apoyándonos principalmente en las investigaciones de Eurídice Figueiredo (2017) sobre el tema, reflexionamos brevemente sobre la producción literaria sobre la dictadura de los últimos años; leemos la novela de Pilla; analizamos el tema de la prisión femenina en la narrativa e pensamos el sentido de la obra en el contexto en que fue producida, entendiéndola, como Figueiredo (2017) como una posibilidad de archivo de nuestro pasado dictatorial.O século XX na América Central e América Latina ficou marcado pelo autoritarismo advindo de governos ditatoriais que ascenderam ao poder em muitos países dessas regiões. No Brasil, o regime foi implantado a partir de 1964 e deixou um rastro de violências físicas e simbólicas que permanecem na contemporaneidade. O aniversário de cinquenta anos do golpe de Estado que colocou os militares no poder, aliado ao término dos trabalhos da Comissão Nacional da Verdade impulsionaram a produção de narrativas sobre o tema. Muitos desses autores que vêm sendo publicados nos últimos anos são mulheres que direta ou indiretamente foram afetadas pelos eventos pretéritos. Dentre a produção dessas mulheres, destacamos o romance de Maria Pilla, Volto semana que vem (2015a), que reúne memórias organizadas de forma desarranjada sobre sua infância, juventude, envolvimento com a militância e consequente exílio e prisão na Argentina. Embora o cárcere se caracterize como um espaço sombrio e de cerceamento da liberdade, Pilla foca nas relações estabelecidas com as companheiras de cativeiro e suas estratégias de sobrevivência. Assim, analisamos o tópico do registro das memórias que dizem respeito à resiliência feminina no cárcere. Nesse percurso, valendo-nos, principalmente, da pesquisa de Eurídice Figueiredo (2017) sobre o tema, refletimos brevemente a respeito da produção literária sobre a ditadura dos últimos anos; fazemos uma leitura do romance de Pilla; analisamos a questão da prisão feminina na narrativa e pensamos acerca do significado da obra no contexto em que foi produzida, compreendendo-a, como Figueiredo (2017) como uma possibilidade de arquivo do nosso passado ditatorial.
