Resumo: This paper is an overview of the performance of the Dutch Reformed Church in the Captaincy of Paraíba, one of the territories conquered by the Dutch West India Company and kept under its control for twenty years. The reformed missions began in 1636 and lasted until 1654, when several ministers mainly directed the indigenous people's catechization, creating missions in Paraíba for this purpose. The research was carried out by analyzing data from primary sources and studies about the period to present who were the ministers involved, their roles and duties, problems faced in indigenous conversion, as well as disagreements among themselves, and the threat of the war of restoration.

Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo2022-12-02info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://revistas.pucsp.br/index.php/rever/article/view/5817710.23925/1677-1222.2021vol22i2a10REVER: Journal for the Study of Religion; Vol. 22 No. 2 (2022): Applied study of religion; 123-137REVER: Revista de Estudos da Religião; v. 22 n. 2 (2022): Ciência da religião aplicada; 123-1371677-1222reponame:Rever (São Paulo.
