Resumo: This work aims to investigate and clarify, through theoretical and bibliographical research, the complex process that involves the concept of anguish in psychoanalysis. Emphasizing the thoughts of Freud and Lacan on the subject, it draws parallels between the anguish affection and the three Lacanian registers, symbolic, real and imaginary. To illustrate the anguish in the registers, this research articulates theoretical concepts with the semiotic analysis of the film series known as the Depression Trilogy, by director Lars Von Trier. With this monograph, it is expected to ease the understanding of the theme of anguish, and to propose a reading method of the affection itself in images
