Amid the current crisis in education, the questions more relevant are what to teach about native language and how to teach. There are new paradigms, such as teaching speech and not only language; decentralize and contextualize the teaching of grammar, and teach language through genres. However, we note that the theory has not been applied in practice. Still teaches language like this is to summarize grammar. Several factors contribute to this scenario, among them: teacher education, quality of teaching materials, family breakdown, devaluation of education, among others. This monograph focuses on the analysis of the materials, through the prism of Education and Linguistics compared with official documents National Curriculum and National Textbook Program. The research methodology used is interpretive, qualitative approach. First, it is the literature review, followed by an analysis of the chosen material, the collection Portuguese: language, William Robert Cherry and Thereza strand Magellan. After the analysis of the work, the results showed that the collection is analyzed in accordance with the assumptions of Education and Linguistics with the guidelines of the National Curriculum Parameters official documents and National Textbook Program
