Association of Parents and Friends of Exceptional Children from São Paulo city: a characterization about care services offered to the person with intellectual disability

Resumo: This article deals with the characterization and registration of 11 care services available for to people with intellectual disability participating in the Association of Parents and Friends of Exceptional Children the city of São Paulo (APAE-SP), including Support Aging, pioneering service in serving longevous people with intellectual disability. The research was guided by the ethnographic method and its subjects were mostly coordinators of APAE-SP. It is concluded that APAE-SP institutional model represents a broad reach, as is organized to suit different stages of life of this population on an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary bases. The record of this institutional experience may serve as a model for the opening of new services as well as promoting knowledge about this population in Brazil.

The record of this institutional experience may serve as a model for the opening of new services as well as promoting knowledge about this population in Brazil.O objetivo foi caracterizar e registrar 11 serviços oferecidos pela APAE-SP, inclusive o Apoio ao Envelhecimento, serviço pioneiro no atendimento a pessoas longevas com deficiência intelectual. Houve orientação do método e técnicas etnográficas. Os sujeitos foram coordenadores e profissionais. Houve autorização institucional e individual para a realização da pesquisa. A APAE-SP possui ampla gama de serviços que buscam atuar de maneira integrada, ancorados em equipes multiprofissionais, atendimento interdisciplinar e personalizado. Os serviços promovem o desenvolvimento saudável e engajado, melhorias na qualidade de vida, na autonomia, na inclusão social e na luta pelos direitos da pessoa com deficiência intelectual. Há forte investimento na família e comunidade.
