Resumo: The scope of this article is to problematize the uses of documentary collections by intellectuals who wrote about the issue of interstate boundaries in the former north of Brazil during the First Republic. In a context in which history was taken as truth and documents as proof, state collections were evaluated as instruments of power. Keywords: collection; archive; interstate boundaries.
