Resumo: The book History of Education and Pedagogy by LorenzoLuzuriaga has the distinction of being a book published inAmerica but written by a European. From this point emergesour interest in analyzing the visions of ‘America’ that underliethis book, thus understanding how they relate to the ‘history ofeducation’ on this continent. However, it is necessary tocontextualize this text, originally published in Argentina. Onthe one hand, in relation to the author and his career as anintellectual, college professor, author and editor of numerousbooks; on the other hand, in relation to the historiography ofeducation in Argentina. We investigate the characteristics ofhis work and then get into the visions that the authorintroduces about America, focusing on the words he used toname the continent throughout the book

A partir de este puntosurge nuestro interés en analizar las visiones sobre ‘América’que subyacen a este libro, buscando comprender cómo serelacionan con la ‘historia de la educación’ en el continente.No obstante, es necesario contextualizar este texto publicadooriginalmente en Argentina. Por un lado, en relación al autor ysu carrera como intelectual, profesor universitario, autor yeditor de innúmeras obras y, por otro, en relación a lahistoriografía de la educación en Argentina. Nuestro principalobjetivo, en este sentido, es investigar las características de sutrabajo y las miradas sobre América, haciendo énfasis en laspalabras usadas para nombrar al continente a lo largo del libro.A obra de Luzuriaga, História da Educação e Pedagogia, sedistingue por ser um livro publicado na América, mas escritopor um europeu. A partir desse ponto, surge o nosso interesseem analisar as visões de ‘América’ que estão por trás desselivro e, assim, entender como eles se relacionam com a ‘históriada educação’ no continente. No entanto, é necessáriocontextualizar esse texto, publicado originalmente na Argentina.Por um lado, em relação ao autor e à sua carreira comointelectual, professor universitário, autor e editor de inúmerasobras e, por outro, em relação à historiografia da educação naArgentina.
