Educators beliefs about childhood, learning and scholarization of children in school and multi-ethnic contexts

Resumo: The content and sources of variability of 96 teachers' and 155 mothers' beliefs about children's development, education and school integration are analysed, as a function of ethnic group, educator's role and multicultural training and school ethnic majority vs. minority contexts. The factorial analysis revealed three factors including beliefs about development and education and one including the disadvantages of school integration for different children. Teachers and mothers only disagree on the nature of childhood related-beliefs. White and black mothers only disagree on school and family educational responsibilities related-beliefs. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.17575/rpsicol.v16i2.483Com uma amostra de 96 professoras e 155 mães de dois grupos étnico/culturais (mães portuguesas brancas e mães imigrantes negras) analisam-se o conteúdo e os factores de variabilidade das crenças destes educadores sobre desenvolvimento, educação e as vantagens e desvantagens de escolarizar crianças diferentes num mesmo cenário escolar. A análise factorial das repostas identifica três factores de crenças sobre desenvolvimento e educação e um sobre as desvantagens da integração escolar. Professoras e mães partilham grande parte das crenças estudadas mas diferenciam-se relativamente a crenças relacionadas com a natureza da infância. As crenças sobre a responsabilidade da escola e da família diferenciam o pensamento dos dois grupos étnicos de mães. A formação das professoras em educação multiculturas, assim como o contexto escolar etnicamente maioritário vs. minoritário, também são factores diferenciadores das suas crenças.
