Idoso) (Guadalupe e Vicente, 2012), MHI-5 ? Mental Health Inventory (Ribeiro, 2001); Geriatric Depression Scale GDS Short Form 15 (Yesavageet al., 1983; Almeida & Almeida, 1999); Escala de Solid?o da UCLA (Neto, 1989); SWLS ? Satisfaction With Life Scale (Diener, 1985). / Introduction /Objective: this study aims to analyze the intercession between elapsed time since retirement (including pre-retirement), personal social network and a set of health and wellbeing variables (mental health, depression, loneliness, satisfaction with life). It specifically aims to analyze the structural and functional differences of personal social network depending on the elapsed time since retirement; analyze the relationship between elapsed time since retirement and the levels of mental health, depression, loneliness, and satisfaction with life. Method: The sample consists of 641 participants, 612 of which are 65 years old or more, and the remaining 29 have ages between 55 and 64 years, with a minimum of 55 and a maximum of 98 years (M = 74.86). Considering the previously mentioned objectives, this study will use the following instruments: IARSP-Idoso (Personal Social Network Assessment Instrument ? Elderly) (Guadalupe & Vicente, 2012), MHI-5 ? Mental Health Inventory (Ribeiro, 2001); Geriatric Depression Scale GDS Short Form 15 (Yesavage et al., 1983; Almeida & Almeida 1999); UCLA Loneliness Scale (Neto, 1989); SWLS-Satisfaction with Life Scale (Diener, 1985). Results: Regarding the relationship between structural and functional variables of personal social network and the elapsed time since retirement, it was possible to identify statistically significant differences at the level of ?composition? (proportion of labor relationships and the proportion of relations with specialized professionals) and ?durability? of relations. The only variable of the functional dimension that approaches statistical significance is the reciprocity of support. As for the relationship between elapsed time since retirement and wellbeing/health variables, several statistically significant differences were identified. Conclusion: Longer elapsed time since retirement seems to be associated with increased depressive symptoms and feelings of loneliness, and decreased satisfaction with life and mental health. Additionally, the first year of retirement seems to be punctuated by a significant increase in the levels of mental health and satisfaction with life, and decrease of depressive symptoms and feelings of loneliness in comparison with pre-retirement, retirement finding that echoes the literature that identifies a honeymoon period in early retirement stages.
