User Satisfaction in Contrasted-Enhanced Spectral Mammography - Case Study at the Hospital Distrital de Santarém

Resumo: Technological innovations have allowed the development of a new application of digital mammography, Contrast-enhanced spectral mammography (CESM). This method, which helps in the fight against breast cancer detects breast lesions and provides morphological and functional information that was previously only obtained through Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (BMRI). The Santarém District Hospital (SDH) was a pioneer in the implementation of CESM in Portugal, an examination that is already routine in health units internationally. A Case Study in the SDH was prepared in order to assess the technical added value and the factors that influence user satisfaction related to the CESM and compared to the BMRI to 124 CESM users. It is concluded that the CESM is a useful tool, which allows a quick, reliable, and satisfactory diagnosis by its users. It was also found that there aren’t studies in Portugal related to patient satisfaction in CESM exams.

Este método de deteção de lesões mamárias fornece informação morfológica e funcional que, anteriormente, só era obtida através da Ressonância Magnética Mamária (RMM) e é uma mais-valia na luta contra o cancro da mama. O Hospital Distrital de Santarém (HDS) foi pioneiro na implementação do CESM em Portugal, exame já de rotina em unidades de saúde a nível internacional. Foi elaborado um Estudo de Caso no HDS com o intuito de avaliar a mais-valia técnica e os fatores que influenciam a satisfação dos utentes em relação ao CESM, comparativamente com a RMM a 124 utentes que realizaram o CESM. Conclui-se que o CESM é uma ferramenta útil, que permite ao utente um diagnóstico rápido, fiável e satisfatório.
