Resumo: In this paper, we aim at showing that the concept of usus, within Priscian’s De constructione (Inst. gram. XVII e XVIII, 6th c. AD) dissociates itself from the notion of Latinitas from the artes grammaticae, and that, together with the ratio, it has the virtue of explaining phaenomena that theoretically violate the “logical rules” of language. Thus, in relation to previous Latin grammatical treatises (the artes), ratio and usus are understooddifferently in the De constructione; so are the phaenomena of barbarism and solecism, once understood as “language vices”.

VI d.C.) se desvincula de la noción de Latinitas, oriunda de las artes grammaticae, y que, junto al  principio de la ratio, tiene la virtud de explicar fenómenos que violan en teoría las “reglas lógicas” de la lengua. De este modo, en relación a las artes, ratio y usus se comprenden de forma diferente en el De constructione, así como hay también una diferencia en la explicación de los fenómenos del barbarismo y del solecismo, entendidos en otros tiempos como “vicios” del lenguaje.Dans cet article, nous voulons montrer que le concept d’usus, dans De constructione, de Priscien (Inst. gram. XVII et XVIII, VIème siècle apr. J.‐C.), se dissocie de la notion Latinitas, originaire des artes grammaticae, et que, aux côtés du principe de la da ratio, il a la vertu d’expliquer des phénomènes qui, théoriquement, violent les «règles logiques» de la langue. Ainsi, en ce qui concerne les artes, ratio et usus, dans De constructione, ils sont considérés différemment, et il existe une différence en ce qui concerne l’explication des phénomènes de barbarisme et de solécisme, autrefois admis comme des «vices» de langage.Neste artigo, pretendemos mostrar que o conceito de usus, no De constructione, de Prisciano (Inst. gram. XVII e XVIII, séc. VI d.C.), se desvincula da noção de Latinitas, oriunda das artes grammaticae, e que, ao lado do princípio da ratio, tem a virtude de explicar fenômenos que, teoricamente, violam as “regras lógicas” da língua.
