Resumo: Although we start watching some signs of the economic and financial crisis slowing down that hit Europe since 2008, Portugal as well as other countries of Southern Europe, is also in crisis with consequences in increased risks and social vulnerability. Policy responses to the crisis lay on financial austerity measures to reduce the budget deficit, the public debt and spending by reducing or freezing wages, increasing rates and taxes, and restructuring services and public support. The multiple dimensions of the crisis and austerity allow us to address the impact of the crisis from multiple perspectives and diverse indicators in order to better analyze their impact. With this background, this communication addresses first, the national level and is support in a large number of indicators, from a set of statistical sources (Eurostat, Pordata, INE, among others). Then, we do a territorial analysis, to build a social geography focused on the number of people affected by the crisis. ItŽs a geography that reflects the situation in 2007 and 2014.In the end we do a brief reflection of the anti-crisis social policies implemented in recent years and its impact on the most vulnerable populations.
