They have been able to disseminate their own culture and reality in an effective way around the globe. In the past, in Henry James’s time, their differences, especially regarding culture, were something like a wall that contributed to a persistent divergence and mutual misunderstandings. Americans and Europeans had dissimilar perspectives regarding society and ways of living. Facing this cultural impact, American writers realized the lack of a sturdy native cultural background in their country and the absence of an assertive conception in relation to their own culture and ways. Americans and Europeans were able to express their experiences about each other’s culture in an important literary production worth of notice. Henry James, like so many other American writers, observed this clash of cultures and devoted his literary career to the study, to the exposure and analysis of the motivation behind such differences. In the present dissertation, we will deal with these mutual perspectives and with Henry James’s perceptions in relation to Daisy Miller.A América do Norte e a Europa são dois continentes dominantes em relação à sua identidade e cultura. Eles têm conseguido disseminar a sua própria cultura e realidade de maneira eficaz em todo o mundo. No passado, na época de Henry James, as suas diferenças, especialmente em relação à cultura, eram como um muro que contribuía para uma divergência persistente e mal-entendidos mútuos. Americanos e Europeus tinham perspetivas diferentes em relação à sociedade e aos modos de vida. Diante desse impacto cultural, os escritores americanos perceberam a falta de uma sólida formação cultural nativa no seu país e a ausência de uma conceção assertiva em relação à sua própria cultura e costumes. Americanos e Europeus puderam expressar as suas experiências sobre a cultura uns dos outros numa importante produção literária digna de nota. Henry James, como tantos outros escritores americanos, observou esse confronto de culturas e dedicou a sua carreira literária ao estudo, à exposição e à análise da motivação por trás de tais diferenças.
