Resumo: In an era of globalization, pressure on postcolonial countries has revealed and emphasized the political, social and urban vulnerability of the Third World. Cities have been undergoing rampant growth that, along with the government's capitalist capture, have been forming endless scenarios of socio-spatial injustices. Following neoliberal ideologies, the privatization of urban decision-making powers in Brazil has resulted in the disjunction between modernization and democracy processes, culminating in a chaotic urban scenario of extreme social stratification. This essay, entitled The Evidence of the Invisible: Subaltern Urbanism from São Paulo, stems from a need to demystify this reality that struck me awkwardly during my six-month stay in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Based on the study of two slums located on the outskirts of São Paulo, I believe it is emerging to bring to the forefront a multidisciplinary debate, navigating between the spheres of architecture, urbanism and the social sciences, in order to seek greater awareness of the problems and day-to-day challenges of the population excluded from the right to the city and citizenship. In the light of the exposed scenarios, I seek to comprehend the different policies developed to address the - sometimes fallacious - shortage scenarios in order to synthesize mechanisms that can really contribute to the effective adequacy of solutions to combat precariousness. It concludes by reflecting on the importance of visibility given to the poor population, in order to combat dystopian and prejudiced speeches, for a greater popular awareness. As well as attention is also given to the emergence of multidisciplinary debates in the formation of architects, promoting greater intellectual capacities in the understanding of current social and urban dystopias, in order to produce new truly democratic bases of action.
