Furthermore, this paper critically assesses the developmental process of ATMPs, examining the key stages from research and preclinical investigations to clinical trials and regulatory approval. It seeks to unravel the intricate roadmap that leads to the successful translation of groundbreaking scientific discoveries into safe, effective, and accessible therapies for patients in need.Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs) são uma categoria de tratamentos médicos inovadores que englobam terapias genéticas, celulares e à base de engenharia de tecidos.Estas têm um grande potencial para o tratamento de uma grande variedade de patologias graves e muitas vezes potencialmente fatais, tais como doenças genéticas, alguns tipos de cancro e doenças degenerativas. Esta dissertação imerge no mundo dos ATMPs, oferecendo uma exploração abrangente do seu desenvolvimento, desafios, enquadramento regulamentar e o impacto transformador que têm na medicina. Ao fornecer uma análise exaustiva desta área terapêutica, esta monografia pretende também enaltecer o potencial dos ATMPs e contribuir para o crescente conhecimento nesta área. Adicionalmente, este documento analisa, de forma crítica, o processo de desenvolvimento dos ATMPs, examinando todo o seu percurso, desde as fases iniciais de investigação e estudos pré-clínicos até aos ensaios clínicos e aprovação regulamentar.
