Introdu??o: A instabilidade vivenciada pela crian?a nos primeiros 5 anos de vida tem um impacto preponderante no seu ajustamento emocional e comportamental, contribuindo para o desenvolvimento de sintomas externalizantes e internalizantes. Entender a qualidade do funcionamento da fam?lia e das rela??es entre pais e filhos ? essencial para potenciar o melhor desenvolvimento da crian?a. Objetivos: Investigar como o funcionamento familiar, os estilos educativos parentais, a viv?ncia de experi?ncias de (in)valida??o emocional na fam?lia e o coping com express?o de emo??es positivas/negativas da crian?a se relacionam com o seu comportamento. Pretende-se, ainda, verificar se existem diferen?as nos estilos educativos parentais, no coping com emo??es positivas/negativas e no comportamento da crian?a em fun??o do n?vel de (in)valida??o emocional na fam?lia. Metodologia: A amostra ? constitu?da por 137 m?es, com idades compreendidas entre os 22 e os 45 anos (M = 34,10; DP = 4,78) e respetivos filhos com idades entre 1 e 5 anos (M = 3,23; DP = 1,42). Para al?m de um question?rio sociodemogr?fico, todas as participantes preencheram o Systemic Clinical Outcome and Routine Evaluation, o Question?rio de Estilos e Dimens?es Parentais, o Question?rio de Experi?ncias de (In)Valida??o Emocional, o Question?rio de Coping com Emo??es Positivas ? Pais, o Coping with Children?s Negative Emotions Scale e o Question?rio de Comportamentos da Crian?a para o per?odo pr?-escolar Resultados: Verificaram-se associa??es entre o funcionamento familiar, os estilos educativos parentais, a viv?ncia de experi?ncias de (in)valida??o emocional na fam?lia e o coping com express?o de emo??es positivas/negativas da crian?a e o comportamento da crian?a. Verificou-se, da mesma forma, associa??es em fun??o do n?vel de (in)valida??o emocional na fam?lia relativamente aos estilos educativos parentais, ao coping com emo??es positivas/negativas e ao comportamento da crian?a. Discuss?o: O presente estudo fornece dados que suportam a premissa de que as vari?veis familiares e o comportamento materno se relacionam, na sua globalidade, com o comportamento manifestado pela crian?a. No entanto, importa considerar que, para al?m da qualidade da rela??o cont?nua entre progenitores e filhos, estes s?o suscet?veis de serem influenciados pelo seu temperamento, pelas suas vulnerabilidades e pelos fatores ambientais. / Introduction: The instability lived by the child in their first 5 years of living has a huge impact in their emotional and behavioral adjustment, contributing to the development of internalizing and externalizing symptoms. Understanding the quality of the family functioning and parents and sons relationships is essential for the better development of the child and in their building as a being in growth. Objective: Investigate how the family functioning, the parental rearing styles, the experiences of emotional (in)validation in the family and the coping with children?s positive/negative emotions relate with their behavior. It also intended to observe if there are differences in parental rearing styles, in the coping with children?s positive/negative emotions and in the child?s behavior according to the level of emotional (in)validation in the family. Methods: The sample consists in 137 participants, with ages between 22 and 45 (M = 34,10; SD = 4,78) and respective childs with ages between 1 and 5 (M = 3,23; SD = 1,42). Besides a sociodemographic questionnaire, all participants filled the Systemic Clinical Outcome and Routine Evaluation, the Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire, the Emotional (In)Validation Experiences Questionnaire, the Coping with Positive Emotions Questionnaire ? Parents, the Coping with Children?s Negative Emotions Scale and the Child Behavior Checklist. Results: Associations between the family functioning, the rearing parenting styles, the experiences of emotional (in)validation in the family, the coping with children?s positive/negative emotions and child?s behavior were observed. It was also observed, associations according to the level of emotional (in)validation in the family relative to the parental rearing styles, to the coping with children?s positive/negative emotions, and to the child?s behavior. Discussion: This study provides data that supports the premise that the family variables and the mother?s behavior can influence, in its entirety, the behavior shown by the child. However, it?s important to consider that, beyond the quality of the ongoing relationship between parents and childrens, these are susceptible of being influenced by their temper, their vulnerabilities and by ambiental factors.
