Os Guarda-Chuvas constitute a space of the arduous and incessant struggle waged by the subject of enunciation to apprehend his "self" in order to allow him self-knowledge and register it. In this exercise of going deeper, the subject of enunciation is confronted with several obstacles that are difficult to overcome, one of them is even insurmountable – the "I" is a fragmentary, mobile, and fleeting being and, therefore, impossible to be captured. Another barrier is related to the means available – language, photography and the mirror – which are incapable of fully representing the “self”. Moreover, self-knowledge requires access to the peripheral zone, the shadow, and not just the central, illuminated “self”, but this one is also evanescent and cannot be captured. Finally, the disintegration of the "self", which would give the possibility of looking at oneself from the outside, does not allow for an objective representation. But alongside this inner adventure we witness another – one that leads to the debate of themes such as the relationship between the visual and the verbal, literary genres, the relationship between reality and language, and the literary making itself.
