Motivations and expectations of students in vocational evening education: a study in a school in Lubango-Angola

Resumo: The present study fits the research carried forward in the context of a vocational secondary school in Lubango, Angola. In this paper, we intend to identify and analyses the factors and the motivations of students of this school to choose the educational institution and the courses they are in, as well as their expectations regarding their attendance at school and their future. The participants of the study are 72, 12th grade students pursuing vocational courses of Information Technology (IT), Accounting and Management, Public Administration and Secretariat. The theoretical Foundation of the study is based on the theory of Self-determination. The methodology of the study is extensive and exploratory, supported by the collection of data through a questionnaire survey. A Descriptive Statistics analysis was carried out, making use of software SPSS version 25. The results allowed to conclude that the choice of the institution and the courses were determined by factors, motivations and expectations with an underlying instrumental or extrinsic dimension, namely associated to the prestige of the school and the profession to which the courses may potentially give access to.

En este artículo, pretendemos analizar las motivaciones de los estudiantes de esta escuela para elegir la institución y los cursos en los que se encuentran, así como sus expectativas con respecto a su asistencia escolar y su futuro. Los participantes del estudio son 72 estudiantes del 12º año de escolaridad en los cursos técnico-profesionales en Informática, Contabilidad y Gestión, Administración Pública y Secretaría. La base teórica del estudio se basa en la teoría de la autodeterminación y las credenciales. Con una metodología de investigación extensiva, con un carácter exploratorio, la recopilación de datos se realizó mediante una encuesta por cuestionario. El procesamiento de datos se realizó mediante un análisis estadístico descriptivo, utilizando el software SPSS versión 25. El análisis de los resultados nos permitió concluir que la elección de la escuela y los cursos tiene subyacentes factores, motivaciones y expectativas con una fuerte dimensión instrumental o extrínseca, a asociada con el prestigio de la escuela y la profesión a la que los cursos potencialmente dan acceso.O estudo que se apresenta enquadra-se numa investigação realizada no contexto de uma escola do ensino secundário técnico-profissional no Lubango, Angola. Neste artigo, pretendemos analisar as motivações de alunos desta escola para a escolha da escola e dos cursos em que se encontram, assim como as suas expectativas relativamente à sua frequência escolar e ao seu futuro. Os participantes do estudo são 72 alunos do 12º ano de escolaridade dos cursos técnico-profissionais de Informática, Contabilidade e Gestão, Administração Pública e Secretariado. A fundamentação teórica do estudo apoia-se na teoria da autodeterminação e no credencialismo. Com uma metodologia de investigação extensiva, com caráter exploratório, a recolha de dados foi feita através de inquérito por questionário. O tratamento de dados foi realizado através de análise estatística descritiva, com recurso ao software SPSS versão 25.
