Periglacial features are structures created by freezing the soil in non-glacial zones. These are structures that arouse the interest of the scientists from a very early age, having already been published numerous works and are still studied until the present day. In order to prove the theoretical bases for the formation of periglacial features, this modeling intends to recreate these structures. More than 60 samples were made, mainly composed by mixing different grain sizes of quartz grains and water, and then subjected to ice-defrost cycles with the help of a thermoelectric plate. This procedure was photographed in the course, allowing future observation of several compilations of images, facilitating the analysis of the results. In this way the final appearance of each of the samples was verified, as well as their evolution throughout each cycle. This work was carried out with the help of the Earth and Space Research Center of the University of Coimbra, which made available all the necessary equipment. It was installed in the sedimentology laboratory of the Department of Earth Sciences of UC. In this work are presented the results of the modeling of periglacial features such as polygonal terrains, calibrated circles, drips and the hypothesis of drainage network. These are studied not only to know the way they were formed but also to apply that knowledge in extraterrestrial regions. On Mars are known periglacial features analogous to terrestrial ones. It can be assumed then that they have a common theoretical basis as soon as Mars has had other environmental conditions than the current ones. It has in fact been possible to observe modeled features that are compared to the real ones, thus proving how they form. However, other structures that do not apply to reality have also been observed.2017-10-12info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesishttp://hdl.handle.net/10316/82573http://hdl.handle.net/10316/82573TID:202057917porSilva, David Costa Ascenso dainfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessreponame:Repositório Científico de Acesso Aberto de Portugal (Repositórios Cientìficos)instname:Agência para a Sociedade do Conhecimento (UMIC) - FCT - Sociedade da Informaçãoinstacron:RCAAP2021-11-12T11:56:32Zoai:estudogeral.uc.pt:10316/82573Portal AgregadorONGhttps://www.rcaap.pt/oai/openaireopendoar:71602024-03-19T21:04:27.190978Repositório Científico de Acesso Aberto de Portugal (Repositórios Cientìficos) - Agência para a Sociedade do Conhecimento (UMIC) - FCT - Sociedade da Informaçãofalse |
