Resumo: As Pop states speech verbs are most likely to undergopragmatization. In this migration towards the pragmatic domainof discourse they often acquire a metadiscursive function. Froma pragmatic and enunciative point of view, we have analyzed themetadiscursive uses of the verb dizer 'to say' in several oral and writtencorpora. One verbal tense and two verbal modes are predominant:the present of the indicative, in the first person singular, digo, andthe present of the subjunctive, in the first person plural, digamos.These verbal forms can have several meanings and functions, betweendiscourse and metadiscourse, from reporting verbs to reformulation,autodialogism or modalization markers.
