Resumo: The author first defines two concepts: ((child abuse)) and ctdifficult child)). After, the authors examines the empirical evidence for the notion that child temperamental characteristics may elicit abusive maltreatment. In a second stept she try to analyse under which conditions child difficulties in terms of intense negative emotionality may affect parenting or may be modified by it. A note on the consequences for clinical practice is included.
