A timidez na formação dos intérpretes de libras: explorando a competência existencial

This research aims to investigate one of the dimensions involved in language learning, namely existential competence (CALVO; BARQUERO, 2011). More specifically, we seek to explain how shyness can influence the process of learning Libras by interpreters of this language in training. Some questions to be answered are: i) To what extent personality development can be an explicit educational objective; and ii) If the trait of shyness can facilitate or hinder the learning of Libras. For that, a descriptive qualitative research will be carried out from a semiopen online questionnaire with students of the course who call themselves shy. With the analyses, we intend to describe, from the perspective of the students themselves, how the training course has dealt with personality issues and what are the strategies used by teachers and students to deal with these issues. The results demonstrated a possible lack of methodologies to deal with shyness during the training of translators and interpreters of Libras, placing the responsibility of creating strategies to deal with shyness on the student. It was concluded that it is necessary to approach the theme during the student's training, in a way that is not invasive and that allows the student to re-signify their experiences, it also exposes the need for the development of new research with this theme, given the scarcity of studies.
