Resumo: The silage sorghum, sweet sorghum and double purpose sorghum species has great capacity to produce biomass for different purposes. The most common uses are in animal and human feed and energetic biomass products such as alcohol, biogas, covers and organic food products such as molasses, flour, syrups and beverages. Agronomic studies and monitoring of these species for use in the production systems of the Rio Grande do Sul State are conducted in web of State assays with other institutions, studying the genetic potential of cultivars marketed and about to launch for agricultural producers. The sorghum biomass was higher than maize biomass, indicating that the productivity of silage and other foodstuffs for the agricultural sector can be improved with lower costs. The average biomass yield was 4.190 kg m–2. Maize cultivars Fepagro 395 Fepagro S 35 produced 2.616 and 2.582 kg of green mass per m2, respectively, while the sorghum cultivars produced 5.040 to 4.360 kg m–2 in only one cut. All genotypes of silage sorghum allowed two cuts when sown in appropriate date, according to indicated by the survey.

All genotypes of silage sorghum allowed two cuts when sown in appropriate date, according to indicated by the survey.
