Resumo: Embrapa had develop thirty years of the maize breeding program for temperate regions in Brazil. The objective of this study was to evaluate the results elite south experiment developed for temperate region of the Brazil, in last decade. It was made individual and joint analysis of the locations in years for characters yield grain, grain moisture at harvest, plant height, ear height. Then was observed number of hybrids evaluated, number of commercial hybrids, number the hybrids above of the medium of the commercial hybrids, number of hybrids below of the medium of the commercial hybrids. The data showed that last in the ten years was obtained, in medium, nine hybrids of high grain yield, eleven more early cycle, sixteen more low and twelve with insert ear low, when compared with commercial hybrids, therefore, these results confirm that the Embrapa maize breeding program for temperate region is generating superior hybrids in the last decade.

A Embrapa desenvolve há mais de 30 anos o programa de melhoramento de milho para região subtropical. O presente trabalho tem por objetivo avaliar os resultados do Ensaio Elite Sul conduzido na região subtropical do Brasil na última década. Foram realizadas análises individuais e a análise conjunta dos locais nos anos, para as características produtividade de grãos (kg ha–1), umidade de grãos na colheita (%), altura de planta (cm) e inserção da primeira espiga (cm) e observado o número de híbridos avaliados, número de híbridos experimentais, média dos híbridos comerciais, número de híbridos com produtividade acima da média dos híbridos comerciais, número de híbridos com produtividade abaixo da média dos híbridos comerciais. Nos últimos dez anos foram obtidos anualmente, em média, nove híbridos de elevada produtividade de grãos, onze mais precoces, 16 de menor estatura de planta e doze com inserção de espiga mais baixa, quando comparados com a média das testemunhas. Assim, pode-se afirmar que os esforços e os métodos empregados no programa de melhoramento de milho para região subtropical estão gerando produtos superioresDepartamento de Diagnóstico e Pesquisa Agropecuária.
