Objective: to uncover the dimensions of non-traumatic amputation of the lower limbs of people with Diabetes Mellitus and Investigate the degree of physical dependence with limitation. Method: descriptive, quantitative exploratory study in the region of Curimataú Paraibano, with 22 participants. The data collection took place during the months of June, July and August of 2016, using a semi-structured form prepared by the authors, after a favorable opinion of number 124.7310. For analysis of the data was released from the statistical contribution through SPSS software version 2.0. The data were exposed by means of tables. Results: all with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, 56% with associated Systemic Hypertension; majority male, live alone and retired. The highest amputation levels, hemipelvectomy in both limbs and transfemoral were the most found 35.6% of the total and minor amputation, toe-toothed, only two participants. Regarding dependence 54% are classified as dependent. Conclusion: the level of dependence found was dependent, the loss of autonomy is observed negatively by the participants, the high rate of amputation, the hemipelvectomy and the transtibial cause the amputation process to become traumatic and feared.
