The sustainable management of water resources is of utmost importance to ensure the preservation of water quality, an essential element for the survival of aquatic ecosystems and the fulfillment of human needs. In this study conducted in the Rio das Antas Basin, Irati-PR, we investigated how the use and occupation of land in Permanent Preservation Areas can influence water quality parameters in springs, a matter of significant relevance for decision-making in water management policies. Agriculture and forestry areas showed correlation with parameters such as phosphorus and pH, indicating potential impacts of these activities on water quality. It is crucial to emphasize the need for a holistic approach in water resources management, considering not only quantitative but also qualitative aspects. The analysis of results revealed that, although some correlations were identified, the variation in outcomes among different land uses and parameters highlights the complexity of this interaction. Furthermore, the ecotoxicological assessment using the microcrustacean Daphnia magna did not show toxic effects in the samples, even in the sensitivity of these organisms. This finding suggests that, despite anthropogenic activities in the region, the health of aquatic ecosystems may be relatively preserved. Thus, this study not only contributes to understanding the relationship between land use and water quality but also underscores the importance of water resources management strategies that consider local nuances and promote the sustainable preservation of these vital resources.
