Social assistance policy in Uruguay in times of pandemic and the mediation of ICTs

Resumo: The article reflects on the integration and expansion of new information and communication technologies (ICTs) in the management of social care services and benefits in Uruguay, during the socio-sanitary emergency generated by the Covid-19. In these notes we observe the performance of these technologies considering their contribution to the automation of tasks inherent to public administration, and in particular, of social assistance benefits. The response deployed in the pandemic context prioritized a progressive integration of automated assistance practices and remote eligibility, which opens a field of questions about their effects on professional practices.
