Resumo: This article presents a discussion and analysis of evidences of Advanced Mathematical Thinking, mainly of the abstraction process according to Dreyfus (2002), in an teaching episode. Through a Teaching Experience, based on the Inquiry-Based Learning perspective, investigated the manifestation of this process by students entering a course in Chemistry Degree during the accomplishment of a task involving matrices, aiming to approach geometric transformations, in the discipline of Analytical Geometry and Linear Algebra. The results show that, from seven students who participated in this study, only two mobilized the generalization and the synthesis process, thus, manifesting the abstraction process.

Através de uma Experiência de Ensino pautada na perspectiva do Ensino-Aprendizagem Exploratório, investigou-se a manifestação desse processo por estudantes ingressantes de um curso de Licenciatura em Química durante a realização de uma tarefa envolvendo matrizes, visando abordar transformações geométricas, na disciplina de Geometria Analítica e Álgebra Linear.
