Accidents involving motorcycles have been quite significant in our society and have generated serious consequences to public coffers, because of the high rate of morbidity and mortality and a concern for public health. This phenomenon is attributed to several factors due to their vulnerability, leaving victims more prone to several conditions; however, most require an urgent and emergency care outside the hospital environment, contributing to the growing demand for services provided by the Mobile Service of Urgent Care (SAMU). Based on this reality, we realize that the government should implement more public policies and strengthen existing in order to reduce these accidents. This study deals with motorcycle accidents and health policy in Fortaleza, between August/2012 and July/2013. The main objective is to investigate how emergency care is being provided to the victims of motorcycle accidents by SAMU and what significance these services bring to society. The methodology was empyrean character; with bibliographical and documentary analysis. The scope of the research was provided 10.319 consultations by SAMU to the victims of motorcycle accidents, for one year, and the following variables relating to attendances were considered: age, sex, type of accident, time of occurrence, day of week and region. Data were collected and analyzed on a statistical basis and the results were discussed according to the references used. Considering the results of this research, we identified the magnitude of the problem and the importance of PHC (APH), performed by a qualified SAMU providing assistance to reduce health problems.
