Resumo: The Taim Ecological Station (ESEC Taim) is an Integral Protection Conservation Unit, located at the southern end of the Rio Grande do Sul Coastal Plain. ESEC has the purpose of representing and preserving the typical wetlands, fields and coastal dunes which play a fundamental role in the conservation of biological diversity and in the maintenance of the physical-natural system. In contrast, this environment has been pressured by land uses in the surroundings. Thus, monitoring the spatial transformations caused by land use and coverage is fundamental to the integrity of this Conservation Unit. The data were compared with the environmental legislation and the result generated a map where it is possible to identify whether land uses are compatible with legal parameters. In general, the main problem of ESEC Taim is associated with activities linked to livestock and forestry, which compromises the main function of comprehensive protection.

A ESEC tem a finalidade de representar e preservar as áreas típicas de banhados, campos e dunas litorâneas as quais desempenham papel fundamental na conservação da diversidade biológica e na manutenção do sistema físico-natural. Em contraponto, este ambiente vem sendo pressionado pelos usos da terra no entorno. Dessa forma, acompanhar as transformações espaciais causadas pelo o uso e a cobertura da terra é fundamental para integridade desta Unidade de Conservação. Os dados foram confrontados com a legislação ambiental e o resultado gerou um mapa onde é possível identificar se há compatibilidade dos usos da terra aos parâmetros legais.
