Material culture and print culture as parameters for comparative research in printed book collections

This paper seeks to debate on criteria in the making of an analysis sheet that seeks to be used in comparative research of printed books. This discussion is based on the making of the book as an object of the material culture. Thus, we approach the editorial flow as a guide in the search for criteria and dimensions for making an analysis sheet. From a design perspective, we highlight aspects related to visual composition and print production. Methods with similar purposes were evaluated for the formulation of criteria and recommendations. The variables suggested are organized in dimensions of identification, visual composition, print production and circulation. At the end, we address particular issues of this type of research, since the sensitivity and creativity of the researcher is a determining factor for the making and dealing of this type of investigation.
