Resumo: This article aims to make a critical assessment of Geolinguistic in Brazil, once the development of linguistic atlases has achieved numerous breakthroughs in the country since its inception in 1963, the year that Nelson Rossi published the first linguistic atlas of a Brazilian state, the Atlas Prévio dos Falares Baianos (Rossi, et. al., 1963). Therefore, from a review of the literature, the paper presents the state of art in this scenario and proposes a bipartite division of Brazilian geolinguistic studies, considering the methodological characteristics of each study and the influences of the Linguistic Atlas Project of Brazil in this area.
