Resumo: This study aims to illustrate how occurs the lexicographical treatment of verbal regency in Houaiss (2001). Based on Perini (2001) we discuss the verbal regency concept and expose it from the portuguese entries rondar and beber in the dictionary under study. Our first results show that the lack of clarity of syntactical description offered by Hou (2001) reflects the terminological and conceptual diversity that currently permeates linguistic studies in Brazil.
