Relationship between climate behaviour and respiratory diseases in the city of Barreiras/BA

The influence of the meteorological and human factors in the population’s health conditions allows the Geographic Science to analyze those relations either by statistical methods or Spatial Analysis techniques. In the city of Barreiras, located in the Western of Bahia state, the population increase in the last four decades has been significant with approximately 3,100 habitants per year from 1980 to 2015. Weather conditions can be identified as one of the main conditioning to public health problems in this population, especially for respiratory diseases which ranks third in the causes of hospitalizations in the city of Barreiras / BA which demand actions of public management. Therefore, we sought to carry out this work a geographical analysis with an investigation of the occurrence of major respiratory diseases and periods of higher incidence, from the data available in the DATASUS system as well as checking weather data used in the association between them, from 2000 to 2010. Results indicate the existence of a relationship between the behavior of atmospheric conditions and the occurrence of respiratory diseases, especially in the age groups of children and the elderly.
