In a changing world, the Euro-Referencial of ECIA continues to validate the skills of the professionals of information?

Introduction - The referential of skills of the professionals of information, that appeared a little everywhere at the end of the twentieth century, have served as guiding axis in the definitions of the profiles and functions of this professional group. The international level one of the referential with greater geographic coverage is the Euro-Referencial of ECIA. Objectives- In recent years it has been questioned the validity of this instrument and if it effectively encompasses the set of competencies the profession that is constantly changing. From interviews made the 30 graduates from Degree in Information Sciences and Documentation of the Universidade Aberta, which mostly already performed functions in Information Units, sought to assess the relevance and validity of this document. Methodology - The group identified the twelve powers more significant for the performance of their profession, taking the analysis of results was performed according to the professional category and the typology of libraries/services where exerted a professional activity. Results - The study revealed that these professionals knew identify the essential competencies in function of responsibilities and tasks inherent to their posts and also the bodies where they were exercising the professional activities. Conclusions – The results allow to affirm that this guiding instrument of the profession, continues to be valid.
