Restructured work in the sugarcane agribusiness: impacts on the health of rural workers

Resumo: Rural work in the Brazilian sugarcane sector is marked by hardship, exploitation and imbalanced rights. The objective of this study was to discuss how the restructured work in sugarcane had impacts on the health of sugarcane workers. The methodology involved the analysis of secondary data were obtained from the Social Security website, on the general health conditions, occupational morbidity and mortality of sugarcane workers. It is concluded that the equalization of rights between rural and urban workers covered the amounts of pensions and the restriction of informality, without, however, causing improvements in the general health standard of rural sugarcane workers, as the combination of high-intensity work, long hours and flexible pay contributed to the early deterioration of health.

El objetivo de este estudio fue discutir cómo el trabajo reestructurado en la caña de azúcar tuvo un impacto en la salud de los trabajadores rurales de la caña de azúcar. La metodología incluyó el análisis de datos secundarios del sitio web de la Seguridad Social sobre las condiciones generales de salud, la morbilidad y mortalidad ocupacional de los trabajadores rurales de la caña de azúcar. Se concluye que la igualación de derechos entre los trabajadores rurales y urbanos cubrió los valores de las pensiones y la restricción de la informalidad, sin embargo, sin causar mejoras en el estándar general de salud de los trabajadores rurales de la caña de azúcar, ya que la combinación de trabajo de alta intensidad, con largas horas y remuneraciones flexibles, contribuyó al deterioro temprano de la salud.O trabalho rural na canavicultura brasileira é marcado pela penosidade, espoliação e a disparidade de direitos. O objetivo deste estudo foi discutir como o trabalho reestruturado na canavicultura ocasionou impactos à saúde dos trabalhadores rurais canavieiros. A metodologia envolveu a análise de dados secundários do site da Previdência Social sobre as condições gerais de saúde, a morbidade e mortalidade ocupacional dos trabalhadores rurais canavieiros.
