Resumo: | Artisanal fisheries are directly related to environmental, cultural and socioeconomic determinants. Fisherman’s ability to coexist under a social pattern depends on a traditional technical knowledge of ecological values, related to the socioeconomic context, which is essential for survival. Based on these assumptions, the Angari Community of artisanal fishermen was studied with the objective of outlining their socioeconomic profile and resilience capacity. The survey was conducted between October and November 2016, through the application of semi-structured interviews to 80 artisanal fishermen. Prevalence was observed among males (85%) and married (43%), besides poor education and an aging population, with little possibility of entry of young people into the activity. Most of families are formed by a couple with up to two children. Most fishermen (91%) are beneficiaries of ‘fish unemployment insurance’ through the register of the Brazilian Fisheries Secretariat. Among conclusions, we verify that the socioeconomic survey carried out in this work provides important information for the development of public policies that can benefit the Angari fishermen, collaborating to reduce the social and environmental impacts suffered by the community, opposing the abandonment of their traditions to allow the livelihood of fishermen through fishing resources. |
