Resumo: This work aimed to study the genotype and environment effect on grain yield and protein levels of three soybean cultivars in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. Grain yield and protein levels of soybean were evaluated during 2002/03 and 2004/05 cropping seasons. Grain yield in 2002/03 was satisfactory considering favorable climatic conditions. However, in 2004/05, grain yield of BRS 133 cultivar was low due to dry conditions during grain wadding. BRS 206 cultivar, on both cropping seasons, showed the highest levels of protein, which suggests that cultivar effect was more important for protein levels.

As características avaliadas foram o rendimento de grãos e os teores de proteína bruta nas sementes. Os níveis de produtividade da safra 2002/03 foram elevados em função das condições climáticas favoráveis. A safra 2004/05 caracterizou-se pela ocorrência de estresse hídrico durante o enchimento de grãos, resultando em menor rendimento de grãos na cultivar BRS 133.
