Resumo: The primary objective of this article is to look into the political imaginary brought about the National Rock, during the Brazilian democratic transition in the 1980s.  Considering the relationship between popular music and historical knowledge, the political representations elaborated by such bands on the military, the state and the nation, is also examined, concluding that the composers, in general, bet on the values ​​of democracy.
