In this research, we aim to relate the transformations observed in the Santa Cruz neighbourhood with the current process of metropolization. The choice of the theme and the spatial area is due to its location in the face of major infrastructure investments, both at the state and municipal level. Recognizing that these investments have the potential to promote the expansion of the metropolis in very aspects, we used a space-time approach in which were observed local materializations of forged socio-spatial processes in bygone contexts, conditioning the current process. In this sense, we adopted the regressive-progressive method from Léfèbvre (1983, 1991) in order to understand the juxtaposed and overlying temporalities as a means and condition for the reproduction in space. Accordingly, we draw on geographic scale in Castro (2000), Corrêa (2003, 2007), O Neill (2005), Moore (2008) and Souza (2013) as the operative means to contextualize these local transformations into broader scales. The adopted time frame is due to the period when such investments were proposed and implemented by promoting transformations in the concerned spatial area, the Santa Cruz neighbourhood. Theoretically based on space as social product, we adopted the conceptions of Léfèbvre (1994, 2008), Soja (1999), Santos, (2002, 2008, 2004, 2012), Harvey (2006) and Thrift (2007) and the notion of structure and system in Santos (2008). In this research, the current process of metropolization is understood as a process, containing elements that distinguishes it from previous times. Therefore, the most important elements are those that confirm the metropolization of the Santa Cruz neighbourhood, discerning that the local dynamics resulted in both, promoting a form of segregation in the internal space of the neighbourhood, on one hand, as well as increasing the concentration in the city of Rio de Janeiro, on the other hand
