O Bloco Se Benze que Dá e o seu papel na Sociabilidade da Favela da Maré (Rio de Janeiro)

The present work takes a reflective approach on the Se Benze que Dá (SBQD) carnival group and its sociability relationships in the Conjunto de Favelas da Maré, located in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro. Maré, built from the 1940s onwards, is a place with a great historical and cultural background. Several cultural projects are carried out in Mareeense lands and are contributing to the construction of other representatives on this territory. A group of residents of Maré created this block in 2005. In addition to its fun function, Se Benze is also an instrument of political, cultural and educational struggle. One of the objectives of the bloc is to help break the “borders” existing in the territory, inviting residents to come to the streets. For the various activities of the block to take place, such as: elaboration of the samba plot, the choice of the path, sociability among its members is necessary, through being together and doing together. As a methodology, we conducted semi-structured interviews mainly through Whatsapp. Another methodological resource was the realization of photobiographies with members of Se Benze. The collected materials allow us to state that the block contributes to the creation and/or maintenance of bonds of friendship and solidarity, especially among its members.
