Brazilian religiosity has been deeply affected by the presence of the Catholic Religion since the beginning of the Portuguese Colonization in Brazil. Religious Catholic festivities of Salvador date back the Colonial Period and they are also characterized by the strong presence of African religiosity. This study aims at analyzing a specific festivity called Nossa Senhora da Conceição da Praia , which belongs to a church founded by Tomé de Souza in 1549. Such church maintains the presence of the African religiosity framework which the time and the catholic renovation work from the XIX century could not suppress. On the contrary, due to the fact that the Indians and Black People fought against the religious Catholic imposition during the colonial period, it is possible nowadays for the devotees of the African religions to preserve their religiosity through new strategies which guarantee their ritual practices in the religious territory of Bahia. It was also important for this research to unravel the popular religious practices present at the festivity and in the procession which takes place on December 8th, the transformations in the architecture of the religious temple, which is today called Santuário Mariano Arquidiocesano and the religious special symbolic forms which are fundamental to foster the religious sense of the devotees of NossaSenhora da Conceição da Praia throughout the centuries
