Analyzing the series of metal engravings from the period known as visceral (1965-1969) in Anna Bella Geiger, as well as its emergence and reception before the public, critics and artists. There are also drawings made with India ink, gouache and ecoline from this same series, most of which are unknown to the general public. The viscerality in her work refers to the bowels or viscera in the body; all which is visceral, essential, alluding subjectively to internal organs of the human body. With an expression of neo-iconic background, the engraving process allows for a deep perceptive awareness of the artist's own body. As fragment, incision, rupture, decomposition or impossibility, the work arises from the very fragmentation of consciousness of modern man. The passage from Informalism to New Figuration throughout the series, makes it a microcosm of the world panorama of visual arts in the sixties and an icon of the arts during the dictatorial period in Brazil
