Saúde, enfermagem e cuidadores familiares de idosos: lidando com as contradições

The elderly are the largest consumers of Health Services in the Unified Health System due to chronic diseases and disability, especially when the elderly are in the process of being insane, and therefore, their caregivers are always around and are so users of services the elderly. The object of study are the contradictions experienced by the family caregivers of the elderly and had as objective to analyze a proposal of action plan elaborated by nurses, to face the contradictions in the care process of the elderly. As theoretical reference, the theory of social production was used. It is a qualitative study that uses the participatory research methodology. Thus, family caregivers and nurses were considered as coresearches. The setting was an outpatient clinic specializing in the health of the elderly. The data collection period occurred from July 2015 to March 2016 during the workshops and meeting with the nurses. The workshop "Caring for who cares" was a health promotion and data collection activity strategy. Data analysis was performed through the content analysis of the statements of twelve family caregivers and eight nurses. The categories that emerged were difficulties, future perspectives, contradictions, and work proposals. At the end of the study it was possible to reveal the contradictions experienced by family caregivers in the process of caring for the elderly; to discuss strategies and actions of nurses in coping with the problems experienced by family caregivers of the elderly and to elaborate a theoretical model of nursing aimed at coping with the contradictions of care based on health production. The thesis advocated in this study was: The person, the environment, society, services and nursing together, produce health when actions that support the coping of the contradictions in the elderly care are possible. The results of the study pointed out that the contradictions experienced caregivers will not cease to exist, but nurses along with caregivers will be able to take action to help them overcome their problems. Therefore, it is possible to affirm that the health promotion of the elderly and caregivers, addressing them in their entirety, prepares the relative of the elderly to overcome adversity.
