The object of this master s thesis is the digital books and emerged from one initial question: what is the place of the book in face of the digital media? In fact, it s a rhetorical question that the function was evoking new questions on the subject. To go forward it was necessary to pinpoint historically the object, considering the specificities of each support and forms of organizations of the text in each period, discovering the path of the book that takes the position of the producing knowledge and a place of symbolic exchanges. Therefore, the objective of this research was defined as: identify the changes recognized in the form of the text in the objects by inserting the digital book in the long history of the book. The study brought the Coleção Ditadura in new edition, revised and updated version with the enhanced by the multimedia. This way, the printed books took as a point of comparison with to the digital version, setting out the challenges of the digital books
