This research aims to investigate the history of Pará s printed objects in the 19th century. For this purpose, the typographic workshops that operated during that period, and its production, were mapped. The bibliography on the subject was taken into account and research was carried out in libraries and archives in Rio de Janeiro, Belém and São Paulo collecting newspapers, almanacs, posters, postcards, official forms such as edicts, offices and reports related to the period in question. Methodologies were developed to visualize the pertinent questions of the collected material, from which relevant examples were selected to be analyzed in their graphic configuration. In association with studies on graphic memory, the themes of graphic design were related to socioeconomic contexts and to the influence of technological evolution in the graphic configuration of printed matter. Classical authors in the field of graphic design, such as Michael Twyman and studies in material culture were considered in relation to Print Capitalism, concept developed by Benedict Anderson. Typographical workshops are capitalist industrial enterprises, so the work of the typographers and the printed works they produce are the result of social and economic relations pertinent to the historical moment in which they are inserted, at the same time that take part in the construction of the spirit of the time.
