Resumo: The text investigates the body"™s role in the perception according to Aristotle and contrary to Plato. The objective is to show the importance of the body in the perceptive phenomena, i.e., the role of the body in order to the perception occurs, as in order to show how it occurs. I mean, to show how this kind of affection occurs in the percipient composed of body and soul. This means that the body, as much as the soul suffer alterations simultaneously and, therefore, the physical alteration is as much necessary as the psychic. To end up, the body performs a material cognitive function, contrary to Plato who says that the soul perceives and the body is a mere instrument by which the soul receives the sensible objects. In this way, the text intends to clarify how perception knows the being according to Aristotle by treating a very controversial point: how perception discriminates its own objects and if this discrimination is strictly a physiological process or is also an activity of the soul, and if it is also an activity of the soul, in which way the body's physical alteration conjoined with a certain activity of the soul constitute perception.

O texto examina o papel do corpo na percepção segundo Aristóteles e em contraponto com Platão. O objetivo é mostrar qual a importância do corpo no fenômeno perceptivo, tanto para que ele ocorra, como para que ele ocorra do modo como ocorre, i.e., como uma afecção que sofre o percipiente composto de corpo e alma. O que significa dizer que tanto corpo, como alma sofrem alterações simultaneamente e que, portanto, a alteração fí­sica é necessária tanto quanto a psí­quica. Em suma, o corpo excerce uma função cogniva material, ao contrário do que pensava Platão ao dizer que quem percebe é a alma, sendo o corpo um mero instrumento pelo qual a alma recebe os sensí­veis. O texto, deste modo, pretende elucidar como o ser é conhecido pela percepção segundo Aristóteles, tratando assim de um ponto extremamente controverso, a saber: como a sensação discrimina seus próprios objetos e se tal discriminação resume-se apenas em processos fisiológicos ou é também uma atividade da alma e, se é também uma atividade da alma, em que sentido a alteração fí­sica ocorrida no corpo, conjuntamente com uma certa atividade da alma, constituem a percepção.
