Environmental perception of high school students in relation to the use and Caatinga vulnerability in Cariri Paraibano, northeast Semiarid

Resumo: The public school students in Cariri Paraibano are mostly children of farmers and use the native vegetation along with their families for various purposes, leaving the Caatinga vulnerable to several negative environmental impacts. The objective of this study was to detect the use value and the local knowledge of the students in relation to arboreal-shrub species, considering their usefulness and the vulnerability, threats and extinction dangers arising from this process. The work was carried out in 2016, with an argumentative questionnaire, composed of 8 open questions, with 480 students from 30 classes of 1st, 2nd and 3rd year of each school in the municipalities of Asunción, Gurjão, Livramento, Monteiro, Parari, Serra Branca, São João do Cariri, São José dos Cordeiros, Santo André and Sumé. It was decided to work with one public school per city and the choice of these urban centers occurred in a random way. The purpose of the applied questionnaire was to evaluate the students' knowledge regarding the use, conservation and vulnerability of the Caatinga vegetation. They were mentioned by 59 species, belonging to 25 families. The families of the students use 41 species, highlighting food, medicines and fodder. The species with the highest values of use were Spondia tuberosa, Anacardium occidentale and Miracrodruon urundueva. The students cited 36 species of little concern, threatened and in danger of extinction. The results also show that schoolchildren need to be more aware of the state of vulnerability, so that they can use native species in a sustainable manner based on conservation principles, anchored in Environmental Education and the appreciation of local conservation knowledge.

En el presente estudio, se objetivó en el presente estudio, detectar el valor de uso y el conocimiento local de los alumnos en relación a las especies arbóreo-arbustivas, considerando cuáles son sus utilidades y la vulnerabilidad, amenazas y peligros de extinción, resultantes de este proceso. El trabajo ocurrió en 2016, con aplicación de cuestionarios argumentativo, compuesto por 8 preguntas abiertas, con 480 alumnos de 30 clases de 1ª, 2º y 3º año medio de cada escuela, de los municipios de Asunción, Gurjão, Livramento, Monteiro, Parari, Serra Y en el caso de las mujeres. Se optó por trabajar con una escuela pública por ciudad y la elección de estos núcleos urbanos se dio de forma aleatoria. El objetivo del cuestionario aplicado fue evaluar el conocimiento de los discentes en relación al uso, conservación y vulnerabilidad de la vegetación de la Caatinga. Se mencionaron por ellos 59 especies, pertenecientes a 25 familias. Las familias de los alumnos utilizan 41 especies, destacándose la alimentación, medicamentos y forrajes. Las especies de mayores valores de uso fueron Spondia tuberosa, Anacardium occidentale y Miracrodruon urundueva. Los discursos citaron 36 especies poco preocupantes, amenazadas y en peligro de extinción. Los resultados muestran también que los escolares necesitan una mayor sensibilización acerca del estado de la vulnerabilidad, para que puedan utilizar las especies nativas de forma sustentable basada en los principios de la conservación, anclado en la Educación Ambiental y en la valorización del conocimiento de conservación local.  Os alunos das escolas públicas no Cariri Paraibano em maioria são filhos de agricultores e utilizam a vegetação nativa, juntamente com suas famí­lias, para diversas finalidades, deixando a Caatinga vulnerável a diversos impactos ambientais negativos. Objetivou-se no presente estudo, detectar o valor de uso e o conhecimento local dos alunos em relação í s espécies arbóreo-arbustivas, considerando quais as suas utilidades e a vulnerabilidade, ameaças e perigos de extinção, decorrentes deste processo. O trabalho ocorreu em 2016, com aplicação de questionários argumentativo, composto por 8 questões abertas, com 480 alunos de 30 turmas de 1ª, 2º e 3º ano médio de cada escola, dos municí­pios de Assunção, Gurjão, Livramento, Monteiro, Parari, Serra Branca, São João do Cariri, São José dos Cordeiros, Santo André e Sumé. Optou-se por trabalhar com uma escola pública por cidade e a escolha destes núcleos urbanos se deu de forma aleatória. O intuito do questionário aplicado foi avaliar o conhecimento dos discentes em relação ao uso, conservação e vulnerabilidade da vegetação da Caatinga. Foram mencionadas por eles 59 espécies, pertencentes a 25 famí­lias. As famí­lias dos alunos utilizam 41 espécies, se destacando a alimentação, medicamentos e forragens. As espécies de maiores Valores de uso foram Spondia tuberosa, Anacardium occidentale e Miracrodruon urundueva. Os discentes citaram 36 espécies pouco preocupante, ameaçadas e em perigo de extinção.
