Resumo: This work discusses how Mattoso Câmara considers language as element of the culture and, precisely, how this linguist uses the notion of linguistic borrowing. Thus, it has in view contributes to reflection about extension and contours of the thougth of this author, concerning this nowadays very important field, linked to observation of relationships between languages.KEYWORDS: Mattoso Câmara.
