Geographical Indication Potential of Milito Flour in the Municipality of Tarauacá, Acre

Resumo: The milito flour from Tarauacá is an artisanal product appreciated in the state of Acre, with the potential to obtain a Geographical Indication (GI). The objective of this study was to assess the feasibility of a GI for milito flour produced in Tarauacá, located in the state of Acre, Brazil. Initially, a systematic review of Tarauacá's milito flour was conducted; subsequently, an exploratory qualitative research was carried out, collecting primary and secondary data that provided information about the possibility of a GI for Tarauacá's milito flour, AC. It was found that the production of milito flour follows the same process as traditional cassava flour, differing only in the roasting process, which imparts unique sensory characteristics to this flour. Being a product originating and typical of Tarauacá, with qualities that harken back to its origin, the creation of a GI for this product could increase its recognition throughout the country and promote socioeconomic and cultural development in the region.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar seu potencial de IG. Inicialmente, conduziu-se uma revisão sistemática da farinha milito de Tarauacá; em seguida, realizou-se uma pesquisa qualitativa exploratória com levantamento de dados primários e secundários contendo informações sobre seu potencial de IG, com base na Metodologia para Identificação de Potenciais Indicações Geográficas Brasileiras do Sebrae. Verificou-se que a produção da farinha milito segue o mesmo fluxo de produção da farinha de mandioca tradicional, diferindo apenas no procedimento da torra, que torna essa farinha com características sensoriais únicas. A pesquisa destaca a necessidade de novas investigações para caracterizar a cadeia produtiva da farinha milito, abordando análises físico-químicas, microbiológicas, sensoriais e estudos de mercado.
